Merrimac Fire Department Battles Fire at Mobile Home Park

MERRIMAC — Chief Larry Fisher reports that the Merrimac Fire Department and its mutual aid partners extinguished a fire Thursday at a mobile home.

At 5:35 p.m. Thursday, the department responded to a report of a fire at 4 Wendy Way, at the North Shore Community Mobile Home Park.

Upon arrival at the scene at 5:40 p.m., Chief Fisher discovered smoke coming from the back of the unit. Chief Fisher entered the unit and closed a bedroom door, to prevent extension of the fire. Crews arrived shortly thereafter and stretched a line into the bedroom, and they subsequently knocked down the fire.

The unit’s four occupants were home at the time of the fire. They were able to flee the structure. One occupant was taken to a local hospital for medical assistance.

The unit was deemed uninhabitable by the town building inspector. The American Red Cross is assisting the residents in finding accommodations.

Mutual aid was provided by the Amesbury Fire Department. Station coverage was provided by West Newbury and also Newton, N.H.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Merrimac Fire Department.
