Merrimac Fire Department Battles Fire Near Residence

MERRIMAC — Chief Larry S. Fisher reports that the Merrimac Fire Department responded quickly and worked aggressive when an outside fire broke out near a home Thursday morning and threatened the single family home nearby.

Firefighters responded to 38 Little Pond Road at 8:27 a.m. Thursday for a report of an outside fire. When they arrived, firefighters found that a brush fire was already starting to extend to the house. Firefighters initiated a fast attack and stopped the fire in its tracks.

Some siding on the outside of the house was singed, but the house was not seriously damaged. Residents were able to return home.

“This was a great example of the professionalism of our Merrimac firefighters who showed great poise and urgency in potentially saving a home in town today,” Chief Fisher said.

The origin and cause of the fire are under investigation by the Merrimac Fire Department and the State Fire Marshal’s Office.
