The Merrimac Fire Department is looking to hire a Full-time Firefighter/EMT (Paramedic preferred).

The Merrimac Fire Department protects a community of approximately 7000 people in the approximate nine square miles that make up the community of Merrimac, MA. The Fire Department responded to 1560 calls for aid and service last year. Our responses include all types of fires such as buildings, vehicle, wildland and other, we also respond to water related incidents, motor vehicle accidents, industrial accidents along with requests for ambulance service to all types of medical emergencies. We also regularly work with mutual aid partners. Our Ambulance staffing design is a P/B model.
Our staffing model is 12 hour/4 on/ 4 off schedule with some required OT and additional on-call coverage times. We work together to lessen the impact of additional work hours on each other as much as possible.
Responsibilities include
Duties may include, but are not limited to; administrative functions, day to day operations, fire prevention, code enforcement, fire protection, fire investigation, rescue, emergency medical service, hazardous materials mitigation, disaster response functions and may involve protecting lives and property as well as other duties of the Merrimac Fire Department. This work can and will be demanding physically, intellectually and emotionally.
Responsibilities require individuals to work on personal knowledge growth, extensive knowledge and skills in fire prevention, fire investigation, fire suppression, emergency medical care, rescue, victim extrication, hazardous materials operations, and general emergency operations. The position demands the ability to work quickly, effectively and calmly under stressful and difficult conditions.

Preference will be given to individuals who are:
- Certified Paramedics with current ACLS and CPR certifications (at time of hire)
- MA or Pro-Board Firefighter I & II certification.
- Currently enrolled in a Paramedic Program with a completion date within 6 months of the application date
- Individuals with Veteran’s status and/or current residents meeting minimum qualifications.
