MERRIMAC — Fire Chief Larry Fisher reports that the Merrimac Fire Department has implemented a new open burning permit process.
The new open burning permit process allows residents to apply for their permits through an online form. To access the form, click here. After completing the form, residents can submit the online form by clicking a button at the bottom of their screen, which will then be reviewed by the Merrimac Fire Department.
As a result of the new form, the application process will be streamlined, allowing the department to more efficiently review applications and free up the department’s phone lines.
Residents are strongly encouraged to request burn permits in advance of their planned burning day.
After an open burning permit form has been processed by the department, an email will be sent to residents with a permit number as well as an overview of the rules and regulations for open burning.
“We’re pleased to launch this new process, which will allow our department to more efficiently review applications in a more timely manner that frees up needed resources,” Chief Fisher said.
Residents, with the proper permitting, may be allowed to burn daily from Jan. 15 through April 30, but must first visit merrimacfire.org or eeaonline.eea.state.ma.us/dep/massair/web/#/pollution/map/forecast. to check whether burning is permitted on that day. If there are local conditions that override this approval, Merrimac Fire will contact permitted residents by email.
As always, the Merrimac Fire Department urges residents to make safe, responsible decisions and follow safety rules and regulations for open burning. Failure to do so may result in a fine.
Residents with questions regarding the new process can visit the Merrimac Fire Department at 16 East Main St. every day from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.
The new open burning permit form was developed by John Guilfoil Public Relations, the department’s website vendor.
